(From a rant I posted on Facebook)
I hope someday someone does a GOOD film adaptation of Ender's Game. I try not to complain too much about books being better than movies, because I understand the difficulty in changing mediums, but there are ways to do it right. First of all, it was frankly too short. The book was reasonably long, so you're never going to get everything into movie length, but they could have done a much better job if it was something like two and a half hours, instead of an hour forty-five. They got maybe 15% of the plot into the movie, but that's not even what bothers me the most. They seem to have only fit in about 5% of the character development in. The absolute worst part is what they did to Ender. They made him just a whiny smart kid that won't listen to anyone, who gets tricked and then feels guilty. There is so much depth and complexity to the character in the book, which is what makes the book great. Without that, you get cheesy sci-fi with a slight twist at the end, which is exactly what the movie is.
